Why Music?
In today's world, there are many different types of music. Music with an orchestra, music on the radio, music made from a computer, music made from and old guitar, the opposites are endless. Music is an essential part of our lives and can help in in many different ways. Music can help mental illness patience in the hospital, bring messages across to millions of people, and even change the way a person can feel at the end of the day. People interact with music almost every single day of their lives and people can go a whole life long without learning much of anything about it.
I believe that music is an essential subject in schools because not only does it gives students the basic knowledge of what they hear everyday, but gives them the opportunity to create and develop a greater appreciation for the music that we have in our lives. Not to mention studies show that music has helped raise the scores of students grades in different subjects in the school because it stimulates the brain in new ways. Music is a way for students to express themselves. In the elementary classroom, we work on learning all the basics of music and build on what we already know in every class period. In choir, the students and I focus on using our voice to express ourselves when words alone may not be enough. We also working composing new melodies and ideas in the classroom. This creative outlet is exactly what some students are looking for, and if there not, it works new muscles in the mind and gets kids thinking at a higher level.
I have a passion for music and I can't wait to get started here in Dawson. I love to see students get that note or finally perform that rhythm right. There is something special in music and I can here it in the students in the classroom everyday. As a parent, we want our children to succeed in their goals, and music is a place where everyone can achieve that success. Even if a student is not the best singer, coming together to build the music give each students a sense of achievement and when we let ourselves become vulnerable to the music, we can grow as human beings.
