Grading (Jr. & Sr. High Choirs)
In both of the choirs, there will be an implication of the same five categories with varying weight. These will add to make the final grade and include attendance, participation, score study, listening reactions, and concert attendance and reaction paper.
Attendance (20%)
- Attendance will simply be given to the student if the student shows up on time for class and stays the full period. This portion of the grading is very simple to complete as long as students show up to class on time. As student will lose a full day of attendance for every 3 days of being late for class. Attendance is considered excused for emergencies or other school related issues such as field trips or extracurricular teams.
Participation (50%)
- Students will be graded on participation in a simple system that gives the students the benefit of the doubt. Each student will be given 2 participation points a day. If a student acts out or is not paying attention or participating at all, the student will lose 1 or both of the point according to the severity of the action. At the end of the term, the points will be added and scored accordingly. If you miss class for any reason, you will not receive any participation points unless the attendance is excused as listed under the attendance portion of the grade.
Concert attendance and reaction paper (30%)
- For each of the concerts we perform, there will be two graded parts. The first portion will simply consist of showing up on time for the concert and performing. The second will consist of a written portion of reflection. The student must write a one page reflection paper on aspects of the performance, both what the performer felt and heard during the performance, and what is thought of the performance when we watch the recording.
